For the person being measured:
-
Person being measured should wear a swim suit.
Women should wear the same type suit they wear when diving
-
Stand straight, legs slightly apart
-
Face straight ahead, keeping your eyes and head
level. It is important that you not look down as it will create an
error in some of the measurements. This is a common cause of
measurements not being correct and cannot be over emphasized. Look
straight ahead!
-
NOTE: If you wear your
boots under your suit you must measure with your
boots on!!!!!
For the person doing the measuring:
-
Arm and leg measurements should be taken on
dominant side.
-
Please note that many of the measurements connect
from one point to the next. You can leave one end of the measuring
tape in place and advance to the next measurement.
-
Measuring tape should be snug, neither loose nor
tight.
-
Please read how to take each measurement below.
-

else.
-
Take the time to actually mark the measuring points on the body.
This can be done with a felt tip pin, masking tape, or chalk. One very
important
point to mark is the proper crotch point. This is done by having
the person
being measured hold a magazine between their legs where it fits
comfortably
in the crotch. Then place another magazine horizontally across
the first magazine, holding it perfectly level. At the point where the
second magazine
intersects the upper leg, make a dot. This dot will designate
the crotch
point. It is extremely important that the person be standing
straight while
this point is being determined.
-
The rule of "measure twice, cut once" should be strictly followed.

THE FOLLOWING MEASUREMENTS ARE ALL
CIRCUMFERENCE MEASUREMENTS.
|
|
| 1 |
|
Forehead, measure slightly above the eyebrows. |

 |
| 2 |
|
Forehead to nape of neck:
place the tape measure at the
point on the forehead, take the tape measure up over the head, then down the back
of the head to the nape of the neck, where the neck joins the torso. |
| 3 |
|
Neck: measure at the Adam's apple |
| 4 |
|
Upper chest (at the armpits) with tape measure as high up in the
armpits as it can go, measure the chest circumference at this point. |
| 5 |
|
Chest: measure at the nipple line |
| 6 |
|
Waist: measure at the navel (belly button). |
| 7 |
|
Hips: measure at the base of the spine. |
| 8 |
|
Thigh: measure high up on the leg in the groin area |
| 9 |
|
Mid-thigh: measure half way between the thigh and the
knee. |
| 10 |
|
Knee: measure at the center of the knee cap |
| 11 |
|
Below knee: measure right below the knee cap |
| 12 |
|
Calf: measure the thickest part of the lower leg |
| 13 |
|
Ankle: measure one finger width above the ankle bone. |
|
|
ARM MEASUREMENTS (circumference)
All
arm measurements should be taken with the arm extended at a 45
degree angle, with arm and fingers relaxed
|
| 14 |
|
Bicep: measure at the muscle part of the upper arm. |
| 15 |
|
Elbow: measure at
the knob of the elbow. |
| 16 |
|
Forearm: measure at the thickest part of the lower arm. |
| 17 |
|
Wrist: measure one finger width above the wrist bone |
| 18 |
|
Torso circumference: With the tape measure at the top of the
shoulder, let the tape measure fall down the front of the body. Pull the tape
measure between the legs and up the backside to reconnect at the top of the
shoulder. Do not have it too tight in the crotch. |
ARM MEASUREMENTS (these are linear, not circumference)
|
| 19 |
|
Measure the distance from one shoulder seam to the other
shoulder seam. |
 |
| 20 |
|
Place tape measure at the spine at the base of the neck.
With the arm held out to the side at a 45 degree angle, measure from the
mid back to
the wrist.
|
| 21 |
|
Place the tape measure at the shoulder seam. With the
arm extended out to the side at a 45 degree angle, measure the distance to the
wrist
|
| 22 |
|
Measure the distance from the elbow to the wrist.
|
LENGTH MEASUREMENTS
PERSON MUST BE STANDING STRAIGHT WITH EYES
FORWARD.
REPEAT, LOOK DIRECTLY FORWARD. DO NOT LOOK DOWN!
This is where you connect
the dots that you made earlier while measuring around the body.
|
| 23 |
|
Measure the
distance from the top of the shoulder to the chest (nipple line)
|
| 24 |
|
Measure the
distance from the top of the shoulder to the waist (dot). |
| 25 |
|
Measure the
distance from the top of the shoulder to the hip (dot).
|
| 26 |
|
Measure the
distance from the top of the shoulder to the crotch (dot). Be
sure to read instructions on how to determine where proper
crotch point is.
|
| 27 |
|
Measure the
distance from the top of the shoulder to the ankle (dot). |
|
|
The following measurements are from the ankle to:
|
| 28 |
|
Measure the distance from the
ankle to the calf (dot). |
| 29 |
|
Measure the distance from the
ankle to the center of the knee (dot). |
| 30 |
|
Measure the distance from the
ankle to the mid-thigh (dot). |
| 31 |
|
Measure the distance from the ankle
to the crotch (dot). |
